The following factors must be considered in selecting capstan size for car spotting
1. Number and total weight of cars to be moved.
2. Track condition... firm or poor ballast.
3. Track grade... if any.
4. Straight track or degree of curvature.
5. Coldest temperature in which capstan is required.
6. Cycle time.
